Buck Woodard, Director of Colonial Williamsburg’s American Indian Initiative will offer a discussion on

Trustees for the Nottoway Indians and Indian Land in Nineteenth-century Southampton County

This interactive talk will explore the  18th and 19th century Trustees of the Nottoway Tribe, various plantations around the old Nottoway reservation and the multiple ways in which the Nottoway’s lands, assets and people were interconnected with Southampton County’s nineteenth-century political economy.

Background information about the “Let’s Talk” series and the Nottoway Tribe’s Community House –

The Nottoway Indian Tribe of Virginia Community House and Interpretive Center’s Let’s Talk series offers conversational discussions with visiting historians and local folk throughout the year.

The Center is open on Saturdays from 11 AM to 4 PM and by appointment during the week.  Our focus is on educational outreach.  We offer programming and interpretive discussion for our permanent history exhibit called, “Nottoway Indian History, From Barter…to Buffer…to Be”.  Along with being an attraction for tourists and visitors of all ages, we host meetings for local clubs and organizations.  To read more about us, please visit the Tribe’s website and “like” us on Facebook.
